GE Ultrasound BT levels explained

Updated: Jan 23

GE Healthcare uses the "BT" (Break Through) designation to indicate the version year of their ultrasound systems, with the two digits following "BT" representing the release year. For example, "BT09" signifies a system released in 2009. Each BT version typically includes software and hardware enhancements, offering improved imaging performance, new features, and compatibility with advanced transducers.

GE Logiq E9 BT Versions:

  • BT09 (2009): The initial release, featuring 4D imaging for OB/GYN, a 19-inch LCD monitor, four active probe ports, CrossXBeam, SRI HD (Speckle Reduction Imaging), and other standard imaging modes.

  • BT10 (2010): Introduced slight software improvements to streamline workflow and resolve various bugs and glitches.

  • BT11 (2011): Added optional Elasto QA (Quantitative Analysis) for measuring tissue stiffness and elasticity, strain-based elastography, and several firmware updates.

  • BT12 to BT15 (2012-2015): Included minor software improvements, bug fixes, back-end processor (BEP) upgrades, support for GE’s XDclear ultrasound probes, and optional Shear Wave Elastography.

GE Voluson Series BT Versions:

  • Voluson E8: This model has eight BT levels that progressively enhance speed, accuracy, and image quality. The 4D expansion allows for Sono AVC, VOCAL, increased speed of STIC, and improved workability of the 4D platform.

  • Voluson S6, S8, and S10: The S6 serves as the entry-level system, while the S8 is the standard for women's health ultrasound, offering features like HDLive, SonoVCAD heart, and a 128-channel beamformer. The S10 is the premium model, providing additional features such as Tricefy Inside and a 10.1-inch touch panel.

Recent Developments:

GE continues to advance its ultrasound technology with the introduction of newer BT versions. For instance, the Voluson Expert Series BT21 offers enhanced performance and image quality, setting new standards in the field.
